Course Summary
This three-day course will guide delegates through all the elements involved in the treatment of sewage, wastewater and industrial effluent. Delegates will receive a thorough grounding in all aspects of wastewater treatment plant design, and will receive a briefing on all the latest technological developments in the field.
Who Should Attend?
The course is suitable for staff at intermediate level from a wide variety of industries, including oil and gas, food and drink, textiles, manufacturing and agriculture. Course participants will include operations and maintenance supervisors, technical team leaders and process and/or production engineering staff.
Issues to be covered include:
Day 1: An overview of Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Treatment Plant Design
• Introduction to Wastewater Engineering: Wastewater treatment, sludge treatment, water disposal and reuse
• Wastewater Characteristics & Treatment Considerations: Wastewater composition, flows and suitable treatment methods including compliance issues, COD, BOD, Ammonia removal.
• Wastewater Treatment Plant Design: Design calculations, ratios, physical processes, chemical processes, biological processes
Day 2: Conventional Treatment Plant Design
• Pre-Treatment, Primary, secondary and tertiary treatment plant design: features, nutrient removal techniques and considerations for water reuse
• Sludge Treatment Plant Design – thickening, centrifuges, belt presses
• Membrane Technologies- UF, RO, MBR
• Boiler and Cooling Water Treatment
Day 3: Troubleshooting / Newer Physical and Biological Treatment Technologies
• Industrial Effluent Treatment: Specific design features, problems and trouble-shooting in industrial effluent treatment including Free Oil Separation, Flotation, Equalization/Diversion
• Troubleshooting:
-Basic troubleshooting biological effluent treatment – which parameters to monitor, how to calculate and interpret KPIs such as MCRT, F:M, SSVI etc.
-Troubleshooting membrane processes– which parameters to monitor, how to calculate and interpret KPIs such as CRI, PRI etc.
• Latest technologies: including Ultrasonic sludge conditioning, Bio-augmentation, MBR, MMBR, AMBR, pure or enhanced oxygen processes, biological aerated flooded filters, sequencing batch reactors, upflow anaerobic sludge blanket process, two and three stage digestion
• Problem-Solving Session: including case studies from the trainer’s professional practice (examples may include “Oily Wastewater Treatment: Troubleshooting Case Study” and “Biological Papermill Effluent Treatment Case Study”. Delegates may also wish to discuss
