ABOUT THE LECTURERS:
Dr. You DONG joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in 2016 as an Assistant Professor. He got his PhD degree in Structural Engineering from Lehigh University. In the past several years, he has made significant efforts to establish myself as an excellent researcher and has had some encouraging signals of success and recognition, such as being invited as the plenary speaker and panelist at a scientific conference, receiving highly competitive projects, and joining editorial boards of international journals. In addition, he has the establishment of a healthy, diverse, and cohesive research group. Presently, his group includes fifteen members (two post-docs, ten doctoral, one master, and two undergraduate students). Dr. Dong’s research background is mainly related to the application of probabilistic methods for life-cycle engineering, risk management, and intelligent maintenance of structures, including the quantification and promotion of infrastructure resilience and sustainability.
He has gradually explored numerous novel multi- disciplinary research topics in machine learning, decision making, and structural health monitoring. As Principal Investigator, he has successfully secured 14 research grants (with a total ~ HK$ 7.72 million), including 12 competitive research grants, that were peer-reviewed, (with a total ~ HK$ 7.0 million) and 2 contract/consultancy research grants (with a total ~ 0.72 million) from the industry partners. He has published 70 articles in peer-reviewed SCI journals, with 48 being the first or corresponding authors. According to Scopus dated March 28, 2022, the number of citations of his publication is 1,688 times, with an H-index of 21. He also delivered 16 invited talks (excluding paper presentations) at conferences, universities, companies, and government offices. He was awarded the “Young Award for the IABMAS” by the 9th International Conference on Bridge Maintenance, Safety and Management (IABMAS 2018), World’s Top 2% Scientists Released by Stanford University 2021, Outstanding Reviewer for 2020: ASCE.
