Overview
The CDM Principal Contractor Training course focuses on the responsibilities of the principal contractor in construction projects according to CDM 2015 regulations. It covers the underlying CDM principles, duty holders' roles, legal documents, and relationships between parties. Participants will learn about specific principal contractor responsibilities, including the construction phase plan, relationships with other duty holders, safe design processes, and prevention principles. The course aims to equip learners with the knowledge and confidence to navigate and interpret the regulations independently.

CDM Principal Contractor Training
Overview:
CDM 2015 divides the activities of a construction project between 7 duty holders. This course focuses on the role of the principal contractor and is offered two variants.
An explanation of underlying CDM principles including the structure of the background of the Regulations and guidance. The relationship between relevant legal documents and concepts such as standards of care are explained.
All CDM duty holders are described together with the relationships between the parties and other key terms used are defined, to give learners the confidence to independently navigate and interpret the Regulations.
The second day focuses on specific principal contractor responsibilities, paying particular attention to the construction phase plan its use; and the relationship between the PC and other duty holders.
At the end of either course, you will:
- Understand the structure of the Regs and associated guidance.
- Give key definitions; including identifying where CDM apply. Key documents and their relationships.
- Outline the roles of the duty holders.
- Explain the appointment processes and considerations for accepting a PC role.
- Outline the relationship between the PC and PD
- Outline CD process of Safe design.
- Understand the purpose of preconstruction information in the development of the construction phase plan.
- Understand and apply the principles of prevention.
- Understand the role of the PD in construction phase in relation to temporary works.
- Specific PC responsibilities including welfare, site security and other technical considerations.
