CAPM Training
Overview
The CAPM® qualification is aimed at relatively new project managers and others involved in project management who seek professional accreditation or an initial understanding of thePMBOK® Guide approach to project management.
This course provides the 23 hours training required as a prerequisite for the CAPM® exam.
Prerequisites
- Anyone with an interest in the PMBOK® Guide approach to project management.
- Those wishing to take the CAPM® exam will need to meet the criteria set by the PMI® (see www.pmi.org).

- prepare for the CAPM® exam
Course Outline
Successful Project Ingredients
This session considers the nature of success, the barriers to achieving it and the ingredients required to overcome these.
The PMBOK®GUIDE Framework
This session provides an introduction to PMBOK® Guide approach, the nine knowledge areas and the five process groups. Exploration of the contents of Chapters 1 to 3 of thePMBOK® Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
Project Integration Management
An overview of the Knowledge Area, processes, key deliverables and techniques. Exploration of the contents of Chapter 4 of thePMBOK® Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
Project Scope Management
An overview of the Knowledge Area, processes, key deliverables and techniques. Exploration of the contents of Chapter 5 of thePMBOK® Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge
Project Time Management
An overview of the Knowledge Area, processes, key deliverables and techniques. Exploration of the contents of Chapter 6 of thePMBOK® Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge
Critical Path Analysis and Scheduling
Types of network diagram. Differences between arrow diagrams and precedence diagrams. Constructing a precedence diagram. In-class exercise. Case study. Scheduling. Levelling and compression.
Project Cost Management
Overview of the Knowledge Area. Processes, key deliverables and techniques. Cost Budgeting and management. Earned Value Management. Sample EVA questions. Exploration of the contents of Chapter 7 of the PMBOK® Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge
Project Quality Management
An overview of the Knowledge Area, processes, key deliverables and techniques. Exploration of the contents of Chapter 8 of thePMBOK® Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge
Project Human Resource Management
An overview of the Knowledge Area, processes, key deliverables and techniques. Leadership versus management. Negotiating skills. The project start-up meeting and Tuckman’s model. Motivation theories. Exploration of the contents of Chapter 9 of the PMBOK® Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge
Project Communications Management
An overview of the Knowledge Area, processes, key deliverables and techniques. Exploration of the contents of Chapter 10of thePMBOK® Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
Project Risk Management
An overview of the Knowledge Area, processes, key deliverables and techniques. Exploration of the contents of Chapter 11 of thePMBOK® Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
Project Procurement Management
This session looks at this PMBOK® Guide knowledge area and the associated processes. It covers the types of contract in common use and the benefits and concerns associated with these. Exploration of the contents of Chapter 11 of the PMBOK® Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
Mock Exam
In addition to the 150 questions provided during the course a 100-question mock exam is provided.
Examinations
The CAPM® exam is normally taken on-line and will need to be arranged directly with the PMI® (www.pmi.org).
