This one-day course aims to equip individuals in the construction industry with essential knowledge of legislation and best practices. Topics covered include injuries and ill-health, the Health and Safety at Work Act, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, site health and safety management, additional legislation, and environmental considerations. Participants will gain an understanding of CDM regulations, develop a safety culture, learn about risk assessments and method statements, and comprehend other relevant Acts and Regulations to ensure the protection of individuals on site. Session 2Injuries and Ill-health in Construction and Maintenance
A review of the causes of injuries and ill-health that occur in construction and the associated accident trends.
Session 3 The Law
An introduction to The Health and Safety at Work etc Act and how this affects management decisions and the formulation of documents
Session 4Application of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
Understanding the scale and types of work to which CDM applies and the definitions used. A review of duty holder’s responsibilities and specific documents/plans.
Session 5 Site Health and Safety Management
How Risk assessments and method statements are prepared. Co-ordination of activities on site. Monitoring and enforcement of the site health and safety rules, procedures and arrangements.
Session 6Additional Legislation
A review of the other Acts and Regulations covering construction works and how these interact with the CDM Regulations and the duties of specific persons on and off site.
Session 7 Environment
A review of environmental legislation and control measures
