Overview

The Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures Training course focuses on practical application of design principles following Eurocode 2. It covers design methods, analysis requirements, and detailing for safe and efficient reinforced concrete structures. The course aims to equip delegates with a broad design capability in reinforced concrete, emphasizing bending, shear, axial resistance, and deflection. The tutor, a chartered civil and structural engineer, leads interactive sessions with worked examples and tutorials. Intended for civil and structural engineers, design managers, and staff from contractor, design, and client organizations.

Who should attend

Course Content

Reinforced concrete is the predominate material in civil and structural engineering projects, delivering performance, versatility and economy to design, analysis and construction.

UK practice follows Eurocode 2 (EN 1992) and this comprehensive two-day course explores the practical application of design principles to produce safe efficient designs to the current design codes.

The course comprises notes, presentations, workshops and delegate interaction in delivering the key aspects of modern design in reinforced concrete.

The principles of design and analysis methods, and the relationship between structural mechanics and Eurocode 2 establish the basis for this hands-on course.

Consideration of bending, shear, axial resistance and deflection enable the delegate to understand and develop design solutions to slabs, columns, beams and simple foundations. The essential elements of structural detailing, workmanship and materials complete the course and equip the delegate with a broad design capability in reinforced concrete. Additional topics such as torsion, strut-and-tie methods, fatigue and crack control will also be explained.

The tutor is a chartered civil and structural engineer with extensive practical experience in the design of building and civil engineering structures. He also lectures on structural design, delivers numerous industry-training courses and is the author of a detailing number of publications on the design of concrete structures.

The course is highly interactive with numerous worked examples and tutorials based on practical design problems. Delegate participation is actively encouraged throughout.

Objectives

At the end of the course each delegate should:

Understand the design methods, material specifications and structure of Eurocode 2
Recognise the link between the fundamental principles of Structural Mechanics and Eurocode 2
Understand the design and analysis requirements for

  • Bending
  • Shear
  • Axial resistance
  • Punching shear
  • Strut-and-tie methods
  • Torsion
  • Prestressing
  • Understand how to ensure the serviceability limit state required are met.
  • Be capable of designing beams, slabs and columns in reinforced concrete to meet the requirements of Eurocode 2
  • Appreciate the geotechnical and structural aspects of spread foundations
  • Appreciate the key aspects of detailing

Testimonials

We’ve helped thousands of professionals grow their skills and confidence. Hear directly from the people who’ve taken our training courses.

The course was exceptional, well run in terms of delivery of information, IT online course but seamless. Very interesting examples of temporary works failures applicable to the businesses we worked in. Break out activities / group examples worked very well and were again well managed by the trainer. Fantastic course, I will recommend to others! Best course I have attended in years!

The trainers knowledge was excellent and I liked his examples and how he could relate them to every day relatable examples that we could all understand. Coming from different industries and sectors his examples were a common ground. It was handled very well virtually and the engagement worked with his questioning and answering
