This one-day course focuses on the impact of new highway surfacing materials, European and British Standards, and revised Highway Agency guidance. Participants will gain practical guidance on achieving durable bituminous mixtures for new highway construction and repairs, troubleshooting poor performance, and understanding new standards. The course is designed for engineering and technical staff responsible for road works. The objectives include understanding factors influencing bituminous mixtures, selecting appropriate mix types, maintaining surfaces safely, identifying problems, and being aware of new standards. The tutor is a chartered civil engineer with considerable experience in developing specifications for bituminous mixtures. He is an acknowledged subject expert in the field, recognised by membership of the Institute of Asphalt Technology and membership of a number of UK and European committees that develop and maintain the standards and specifications for road construction materials.
