Overview
The On Construction Domestic Energy Assessor (OCDEA) Training course in England equips participants with the skills to produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for new domestic dwellings. The five-day course covers energy assessment, legislation, building control requirements, renewable technologies, and practical software workshops. Participants will gain an ABBE qualification upon completion, with supervised case studies and portfolio building. The course includes access to Elmhurst's Design SAP software and technical support. Additional training locations are available throughout the UK.

Every newly built domestic dwelling in the UK requires an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) before being sold or let. As an On Construction Domestic Energy Assessor (OCDEA), you will have the skills and knowledge to complete energy calculations using Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) software to produce a new build EPC.
Our five-day OCDEA training course for new entrants leads to an ABBE (Awarding Body for the Built Environment) qualification and includes:-
- Introduction to energy assessment, legislation and background
- The ABBE Award, timescales and assessment requirements
- Review of Distance Learning tasks
- Background to planning and building control legislation
- Detailed requirements of Part L1A (new dwellings)
- Part L1B (existing dwellings) – extensions and material change of use
- Thermodynamics & U-Values
- Domestic heating & hot water systems
- Renewable technologies & measurement conventions
- Elmhurst Design Software – configuration and use
- SAP Data input requirements & Building Control compliance outputs
- EPC production & practical software workshop
