Who should attend? :   

All members of staff would benefit from the course content.  However, it is most beneficial for staff with specific duties in respect of fire safety, or any member of staff with the potential to deputise in the absence of those nominated person(s).

Course Content:

Designed to assist the employer in meeting their legal duties regarding the training of staff, under the legal requirements laid-down by the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006.

Covers Management of Fire Safety, Evacuation and Specific Roles of Fire Marshal/Fire Warden.

 Objectives: 

To promote a culture of Fire Safety within your workplace, ensuring delegates understand what they should do in the event of a fire alarm, are able to safely and efficiently tackle small fires and are able to safely evacuate the premises.

Course Contents

 

  1. Scottish Fire Statistics – Scotland and Highlands & Islands – as appropriate to

non-Domestic Fires;

 

  1. Employers’ responsibilities in relation to fire under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005;

 

  1. General Fire Theory with a unique, detailed and experiential-based input on how fire occurs and develops;

 

  1. How to identify whether a fire is safe to tackle, including a detailed look at fire phenomena and their signs & symptoms. Includes video footage of professional fire service training environments, as well as footage of real-life incidents;

 

  1. Classifications of fire;

 

  1. General fire safety considerations in the workplace – tailored to your business;

 

  1. Actions to be taken upon discovering a fire in the workplace;

 

  1. Evacuation procedures and good practice;

 

  1. The different types of portable fire extinguisher – with particular reference to those contained within your own workplace;

 

  1. The safe and effective use of portable fire extinguishers – including video footage with detailed instruction;

 

  1. The Role of the Fire Warden/ Fire Marshal – to ensure confidence is achieved by those nominated to perform this role within your workplace.
