The Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 as amended require Employers and persons having control take measures for fighting fire and nominate and adequately train persons to be able to use the fire fighting equipment if necessary.
The aims of a fire extinguisher course is to:
- To provide the background on the type, layout, use and purpose of extinguishers and their suitability for use on particular fires
- A background knowledge of the chemistry of fire and extinguishing fires
Who is the Course designed for?
This course is aimed at supervisors, wardens or lone workers requiring enhanced or refresher fire extinguisher training. For employers who may wish to appoint support staff to fire wardens within the workplace. Delegates will be expected to have some background knowledge of fire safety but have little or no experience in the use of extinguishers

Length of Course
A 2 hour course that is designed to offer hands on experience on the use of extinguishers
Learning Outcomes
Candidates will develop:
- an insight on the legislative requirements regarding fire fighting equipment and use
- an insight of BS EN 3 & BS5306 covering the provision, colour, characteristics & performance
- be able to identify and choose appropriate extinguishers
- know how to Operate extinguishers provided within their workplace
