Online Design of deep foundations Training
Pre-requisites
Delegates should have a basic understanding of geotechnical design, and have attended
our Decoding Eurocode 7 – Basis of geotechnical design (or similar) course.
Eurocode 7 is the current European and British standard for geotechnical design. This
course takes a detailed look at those clauses that deal with deep foundations, such as
embedded retaining walls and piles. The course concentrates on practical aspects of
design, which delegates will need to understand in order to implement the code.
Practical tutorials show delegates how to design deep foundations to Eurocode 7.
Aims and objectives
On completion of this course, delegates will have a detailed knowledge of the design of
deep foundations to Eurocode 7 and be able to apply them to practical design
situations.
Course outline
1. Embedded retaining walls
2. Pile foundations – part 1
3. Pile foundations – part 2
4. Anchors
5. Calculation models for deep foundations
Workshops
1. Anchored sheet pile wall
2. Driven concrete pile in clay and sand
3. Static load tests at Emirates Stadium
Intended audience
Geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, civil engineers, structural engineers
involved in deep foundation design, clients, contractors, regulators.
Speaker
The course is given by Dr Andrew Bond. Andrew is Immediate Past Chairman of CEN
committee TC250/SC7, responsible for the maintenance and evolution of Eurocode 7.
Course duration and delivery
The course is delivered publically in the classroom over one full day.
The course is also made available from time to time via online delivery over 3-4 weeks
(each lecture lasting approximately 1.5 hours).
The course can also be delivered in house, by prior arrangement.
The course counts as 6 hours CPD.
