Objectives
This training course provides a great opportunity to learn about the main renewable energy systems (RES) and introduces how to impartially and objectively assess the feasibility of different RES at specific sites.
Pre-Requisites
It is open to anyone wishing to gain a further insight and in renewable energy systems.
Course Content
This course provides an introduction to the main renewable energy technologies, their application, benefits, constraints, financial incentives, government and planning policy.
● Introduction to the main renewable energy technologies including:-
Solar Water Heating and solar photovoltaics
Wood Fuel Heating
Ground, Water and Air Source Heat Pumps
Small scale hydro-electricity
Small to Medium Scale Wind
● Site based factors that influence RES choice
● Planning
● Financial incentives available for RES
● Case studies of different technologies and installations
The course includes interactive sessions in which delegates will discuss the most appropriate renewable energy technology for a number of different scenarios.
Outcomes
At the end of the course delegates will be able to:
● Understand the basics of energy,
● Distinguish between the main types of renewable energy technology,
● Identify what each technology can do,
● Start the process of identifying which are the most appropriate technologies for any given situation,
● Be aware of and understand the Feed in Tariffs, Renewable Heat Incentive and other relevant financial incentives
● Be aware of Government commitments and targets on greenhouse gases and renewable energy production.
