Eurocode 6 Masonry Training
Introduction Masonry has been used as a Structural Material for millennia. In the past, using only the compressive strength of masonry, such structures as the Arch of Ctesiphon, the Pyramids and large Roman Aqueducts and Dams have been considered in design. These structures have withstood the test of time in terms of their Structural competence. Improvements in the knowledge and understanding of the material properties of masonry of all types has resulted in the dimensions of modern structures built using masonry being reduced and in the use in some aspects of design of the tensile strength of masonry. This one day course is for designers who need to understand design using Eurocode 6.
The Course
This is a one day course for designers new to EC6. It provides an overview of the properties of masonry materials and introduces the basis of design. The course is presented in the following sections:
● Introduction to Codes and Standards
● Basic properties of masonry materials
● Construction aspects
● Design for movement
● Overview of design to EC6
● Design for vertical load and tutorial
● Design for combined vertical and lateral load
● Design for lateral load and tutorial
On completion of the course participants will have an understanding of the basics of masonry construction and will be able to carry out design for vertically and laterally loaded unreinforced masonry.
Duration: 1 Day
