BS8110: Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures

Course Duration: 2 Days

Cost: £495 + VAT

Reinforced concrete is the predominate material in civil and structural engineering projects, delivering performance, versatility and economy to design, analysis and construction.

UK practice follows BS8110 and this comprehensive two-day course explores the practical application of design principles to produce safe efficient designs to the current design codes.

The course comprises notes, presentations, workshops and delegate interaction in delivering the key aspects of modern design in reinforced concrete.

The principles of design and analysis methods, and the relationship between structural mechanics and BS8110 establish the basis for this hands on course.

Consideration of bending and shear enable the delegate to understand and develop design solutions to slabs, columns, beams and simple foundations. The essential elements of structural detailing, workmanship and materials complete the course and equip the delegate with a broad design capability in reinforced concrete.

The tutor is a chartered civil engineer with extensive practical experience in the design of building and civil engineering structures. He also lectures on structural design, delivers numerous industry-training courses and is author of a book on structural detailing.

The course is highly interactive with numerous worked examples and tutorials based on practical design problems. Delegate participation is actively encouraged throughout.

Objectives

At the end of the course each delegate should:

Understand the design methods, material specifications and structure of BS8110
Recognise the link between the fundamental principles of Structural Mechanics and BS8110
Understand the design and analysis requirements for bending and shear
Be capable of designing beams, slabs and columns in reinforced concrete to meet the requirements of BS8110
Appreciate the geotechnical and structural aspects of spread foundations
Appreciate the key aspects of detailing
Recognise the requirements for materials and workmanship
