Objectives:
This course is designed to introduce waste minimisation to candidates and provide an overview of how to implement a waste minimisation program. Waste in business is increasing as a priority as legislation becomes stricter and companies begin to understand the economic and environmental loss when waste is not minimised. Waste minimisation provides many benefits to companies including aiding in compliance, finding and saving hidden costs, and running the business more efficiently.

Course content includes:
• An introduction to waste “What is waste?”
• An overview to relevant waste legislation.
• An introduction to waste minimisation-fundamental concepts including the waste hierarchy and the approaches taken to achieve continual improvement.
• Techniques used to identify waste streams including waste audits and waste mapping.
• An overview of planning, implementing and maintaining a working waste minimisation program.

Outcomes
Upon completion the candidate should:
• Have an understanding of what is waste, and the types of waste,
• Be able to identify the principal pieces of waste legislation and their requirements,
• Understand and be able to describe the waste hierarchy,
• Understand the concepts behind waste mapping and be able to plan and conduct a waste audit,
• Be equipped to be able to implement and maintain a waste minimisation programme
